Week 4 / Danmark, Hewitt, Smith, Regis+2 more

October 20, 2016

The Rams were busy this weekend with 4 trophy events plus two invites. The Danmark, with 20 top caliber teams, is considered the most prestigious interconference event of the year and typically has more top ranked teams than the nationals. 2016 was no exception. Rachel Bryer/Hannah Scanlon and Dakota Northrup/Kate Nota represented the Rams with B division backup from Matt Gibbs in both ends of the boat. After 15 races in each division the Rams finished 12th, 8th in A and 15th in B. The racing was very tough. Starting was extremely difficult and the fleet was super deep with talent. It was a great test for all. Dakota in B has had little experience in very deep fleets and performed very well under the circumstances. Despite some poor starts, he and Kate had a positive delta in nearly all races, a very good sign. Both are sophomores with huge upward potential.
The Hewitt is a 3 division, in conference event that is becoming more competitive every year. Brendan Read/Lauren Richards, Patrick Penwell/Sarah Morin, and Peter Girard/Ryan Geib sailed for Rhody and finished 10th. Brendan and Lauren were best for the Rams with a 5th in A. The Smith at MIT is a mid level NEISA event sailed in Fireflies and Tech Dinghies. Karel Mailloux-Kuz and Ian Nannig sailed A with Benton Croop and Sam Rush sharing the B Division skippering with Sam and Ellis Havelock crewing. The Rams finished 11th in the 19 team field with Sam and Ellis having the best string of top ten finishes.
The Regis Trophy at BU is a B level women’s event and a great opportunity for gain valuable experience on the Charles. Sarah Hermus and Marisa Decollibus were in A with freshman Delaney Bamford and Cece Schneider in B. They finished 6th in the 14 team field and Delaney showed great progress.
In other action the Rams were 7th at an Invite at Harvard and 4th at an invite at Tufts where freshmen Chris Pearson and Caroline Rocchio were 4th in the combined fleet of 16.
