Rams Moving Forward in Early April

April 15, 2018

Over the April 7-8 weekend the Rams were transitioning from Team Racing to Fleet Racing. With 5 events, the Rams were spread far and wide in NEISA.

The Lady Rams were at Yale for the Emily Wick, a major Interconference event. Everyone was there. It felt like the Nationals. Behind a terrific 2nd place performance by Sarah Hermus, Kate Nota and Taylor Borges in A Division the Ladies finished 4th in this major event. Delaney Bamford and Sage Walters were also terrific in B and finished 4th. The Ladies are becoming a force!

The Rams hadn’t qualified for the Team Racing New Englands, but all top teams sent their second teams to the Mystic Team Race at Tufts. It was a quality field. The Rams had been struggling at Tufts for a while, not having many opportunities to figure out the Larks sailed at Tufts, but were determined to finish the team racing season with a top effort. The Rams overcame their Lark issues and had an awesome Saturday, leading the fleet after the first round robin. Sunday’s conditions were more mystical and the 2 Tufts teams used their home court advantage to take the top 2 spots, but the Rams has secured a very satisfying 3rd. The Ram team was Luke Ingalls/Caitlin Able and Ellis Havelock; Dakota Northrup/Lauren Richards, and Matt Gibbs/Eddie Gary.

Our Sloop Team was beginning their quest for the fall Match Racing championships at a J/70 event at Coast Guard. The Rams squad was Brendan Read, Ian Nannig, Garrett Connelly and Peter Gunn/Chris Pearson were dominant on Sunday and secured a big win.

On the home front the Rams were hosting on the Pond at the Southern 5. The Rams showed depth with different sailors each day to secure the win by a large margin. Matt Schreyver/Samantha Hamilton, Chris Pearson/Alyssa Hall sailed on Saturday with Peter Gunn/Emerson Campbell and Michael O’Flaherty/Alyssa Hall on Sunday.

To cap off a great weekend, the Rams won the Tyrell and UConn with 1,2 A/B Division performances by Kylie Castellano/Ally Kramer and Kyle Nannig/ Maggie Bennett.

This was the best total team performance in recent years.
