Lady Rams 3rd at N E Champs – Qualify for Nationals

May 3, 2016

The Lady Rams wrapped up their 2016 regular season with a solid 3rd place finish at the New England Championships held at Yale April 23-24. Rachel Bryer and Hannah Scanlon continued their terrific season with a 3rd in A Division. Sarah Hermus and Marisa Decollibus were 4th in B, only 3 points out of 2nd. Ten races were sailed in each division on Saturday in a very shifty northerly. Consistency was hard to come by and the day ended with URI in 2nd behind BC with Coast Guard in 3rd. These three teams have been at the top of the leader board all year.

On Sunday one A division race was sailed in the last gasps of the northerly, then everyone waited. A southerly filled early in the afternoon and quickly built to 10-12 knots with increasing chop. Coast Guard was best in the chop and moved to a convincing win with BC 2nd. The Lady Rams had matched BC point for point and finished 3rd.

The All NEISA awards were made after the regatta and all four of the Lady Rams starters were named to the first team. Hannah Scanlon was named Crew of the Year and Rachel Bryer was runner-up for Sailor of the Year.

The Lady Rams now move on the Nationals in San Diego May 23-27. They can win it all and know it but they will need to improve their boat speed in chop to win in San Diego. The team will be training in the Harbor of Refuge after finals in preparation for the Nationals. They will be ready.

The Rams were VERY busy in 5 more events over the weekend.

Boston Dinghy Club Cup at MIT 11th
George Morris at BU 8th
Priddy at Sacred Heart 3rd
O’Toole at Mass Maritime 5th
Sportboat at Coast Guard 5th
